About Mrs. Shaziya M. Jaffer

I’m an Elementary teacher working in the Burnaby School District. In my free time, I love to spend time with my family and watch my daughter play ice hockey.

I’m so excited to be a part of Scrap U Kids so I can help educate children about the importance of recycling and taking care of the Earth. I’m learning at the same time and hoping to share my knowledge with others so we can work together to keep our earth clean and healthy for all.

“Did you hear about ‘The Girl Who Recycled 1 Million Cans?!’ We had a special visit from Shaziya (UA parent) who read the book that she and her friends at Scrap University Kids wrote! Students learned and engaged in the topics of recycling, community, math, financial literacy, perseverance, sharing, teamwork and donating. After reading the book some students were so inspired that they planned to start looking for cans at the park.
This book and experience align perfectly with the students’ current unit of inquiry about community, and UA’s current bottle and can drive. This student initiative is raising money to provide safe drinking water to indigenous communities, and you can participate by returning bags of bottles and cans at any Return-it-Express, and printing out labels there under the school phone number (604-524-2211)” – Urban Acadamy
